and Conservation Symposium

Bohinj, Slovenia, 5– 11th June 2006

Ljubljana, Bohinj, February 2006

Dear Friends,

It is a great pleasure to be able to invite a team from your country to take part in the 12th FIPS-Mouche European Fly Fishing Championship.
The championship will take part in Slovenia, on the rivers Sava Bohinjka, Sava Dolinjka and Sava, from 5 to 11 June 2006. The participants will stay in three hotels in Ribčev laz next to Lake Bohinj, in the beautiful natural environment of the Julian Alps in the Triglav National Park.

Slovenia is a Central European country, a member of the EU. It measures only 20,273 sq. km. and according to the latest data has a population of just over two million. The landscape is very varied as the country lies at the meeting point of four large European geographical areas: the Alps, the Dinaric Alps, the Mediterranean and the Pannonian Plain. Slovenia has many rivers and streams – the total length of watercourses, rivers, and permanent and torrential tributaries is 26,600 km.

The 12th FIPS-Mouche European Fly Fishing Championship will take place on three rivers: the Sava Bohinjka, the Sava Dolinjka and the Sava, which are considered to be the best and most beautiful rivers in Slovenia for fly fishing. All five sectors will be on these rivers and it will be possible to fish from the banks, or in the rivers using waders. The eligible species are brown trout, rainbow trout, brook trout and grayling.

The championship organisation is the National Anglers’ Association of Slovenia (RZS), which incorporates 64 fishing clubs which manage the fish populations in nearly 95% of Slovenia’s watercourses. The technical organisation of the championship is the Bohinj Fishing Club, while competition sectors will be on parts of rivers managed by, in addition to the Bohinj Fishing Club, the Fisheries Research Institute of Slovenia and the Bled, Radovljica and Jesenice Fishing Clubs.

The championship is open to teams nominated by the members of FIPS-Mouche. The official accommodation for the competitors and their companions has been reserved in three hotels: Hotel Jezero (4 stars), Hotel Bohinj (4 stars) and Pension Kristal. The price list of all the services is attached to this letter, in addition to the programme of events and registration forms for competitors and their companions. All the applications and reservations can only be arranged trough Anglers' Association of Slovenia (RZS).

You are requested to return the completed registration forms as soon as possible, and at the latest by 31 March 2006 to the Anglers' Association of Slovenia
