Bohinj is one of the most famous regions for angling in Slovenia. Clear waters and crafty fish ensure beautiful and interesting fishing. Fish-hooks with barbs are prohibited. So this is something for skilled anglers, and there is nothing wrong with putting back an occasional fish.

Bohinj is a well-known fly-fishing area in Slovenia where natural surroundings and easy access to the water are assurance that fishing will be an enjoyable and memorable experience. Fishing is possible in Bohinj lake and in the river Sava Bohinjka.

River Sava Bohinjka: Fishing season: from 22.March to 30.November
This is a beautiful alpine river that flows out of Lake Bohinj and then goes through beautiful mountain scenary. Brown trout, rainbow trout and grayling all thrive in the river. In all Sava districts, where fishing is permitted, "Catch and Take" and "Catch and Release" fishing is possible. Only barb-less hooks are permitted and that fishing is restricted to one fly rod (with a single fly) per person. Fishermans are allowed to catch: rainbow trouts, graylings and brown trouts.

Bohinj Lake: Fishing season: from 1.March to 14.November
Indigenous fish species like Lake trout, Burbot and Chub and non-indigenous fish Lake Brook trout can be found in Lake Bohinj. It is permitted to use one fishing set (one rod) and only artificial or dead baits are allowed. Bone worms are forbidden. Fishermans are allowed to catch: lake charr, brown trout, lake trout, chub, burbot, rainbow trout, grayling, hybrids, pumpkinseed, goldfish and other fish.
