GORELJEK PEAT BOG

Peat bogs belong among the most precious natural areas in Europe.

STUDY TRAIL AND THE SIGNIFICANCE OF PEAT BOGS

Peat bogs on the Pokljuka plateauare located in the area which is most heavily impacted by people. Sacrificing one peat bog for educational purposes is the price for preserving others. The trail runs around the peat bog which is located in the middle of an inhabited area.

This theme trail enables you to safely and individually see the peat bogs which belong among the most preserved natural areas in Europe. Information boards present you the flora and fauna in this area, the Pokljuka plateau in the past and today, general features about the bog and other activities in the surrounding area.

HOW IS SAFE WALKING ON THE PEAT BOG ENSURED?

Wooden platforms are located in wet parts, and they enable safe walking. An information board at the entrance, i.e. on the northern side of the bog near the chapel, warns about appropriate conduct.
