HIGH MOUNTAIN ARCHAEOLOGICAL TRAIL: VOGEL

Guided tour with an archaeologist

Recently discovered high mountain posts for miners and shepherds that were occasionally populated between the 5th century BC and the 9th century AD. Guidance encompasses the visit to the foundations of the old hut at Prednji Vogel, the archaeological site and the ore-bearing cave at Zadnji Vogel.

Mrs Marija Ogrin, an expert who has led many archaeological excavations on this site, will take you along the traces that people left in the ground thousands of years ago.

Short description of a trail

The trail runs on Vogel past the archaeological sites at Dolga Planja, towards Konjsko sedlo, where you will enjoy the alpine flowers and the beautiful view of the Julian Alps and Triglav, and on archaeological site Poljanica.

On Zadnji Voge pasture, you will stop at a cheese dairy where you will find out about cheese making on the pasture and how cheese was produced in the past and today.
