Picturesque pastures abound around the Bohinj valley and alpine dairy farming is still present there. We head towards the Uskovnica, through the forests of Pokljuka and to Zajamniki, where we can enjoy in great views. This tour will be energising for the spirit and for the body. Upon agreement, dairy products can be tasted at a specific dairy farmer.
The tour starts at the Mrcina Ranch and continues along the road to the Uskovnica pasture. On the way to the pasture, you can enjoy beautiful views of the lower Bohinj mountains and the valley. When you reach the Uskovnica pastures, you make a shortstop and rest, while the guide explains about life on Bohinj pastures. After horses get refreshed, the tour continues to the Praprotnica pasture. If riders want they can stop at the hut for a drink or lunch. Another shortstop is possible on the Praprotnica pasture.
The tour then continues to the Zajamniki pasture, where you have a 45-minute stop. The horses have to rest and graze, while riders can enjoy the magnificent views. This is the time to rest, visit the pasture or listen to the guide who talks about the pastures, alpine dairy farming and everything interesting about the Bohinj environment. The guide also describes the hills and gives tips for hiking tours, talks about the horses and interesting facts about them or even about mountain rescue actions. Robi, who will be your guide, is the member Bohinj Mountain Rescue Service. The history of life on the pastures, where alpine dairy farming still goes on today, is also interesting. There is a roguish story about the Zajamniki pasture, i.e. how the people from Srednja vas village sold it at a very low price. The people from Češnjica village bought the pasture only for two loaves of cheese because there were water problems on the pasture. So they say.
From Zajamniki the tour continues to Podjelje, where you get back in the saddle and ride to Jereka, Češnjica and along the Senožeta meadows back to the ranch. If riders wish, we can also ride across the Senožeta meadows. Sometimes, we can also turn from Podjelje to the hidden and unknown Poljana plateau, where in summer cows graze and where we can enjoy the beautiful view of Lake Bohinj.
