Co-create the stories of Lake Bohinj
There is a story that when God created the world, at first he forgot about the modest people of Bohinj. To redeem this oversight, he then gave the people of Bohinj all the beauties that he had wanted to save for himself. This is how we got the wonderful world below Triglav, with a natural pearl in the valley – Lake Bohinj. This unique part of the world has a special charm in all seasons, and not only the locals, but also many other people feel at home here.
So to make yourself a bit more comfortable along the lake, you can adopt a bench. A genuine bench, designed by the renowned Slovenian architects Janko Rožič, Matjaž Suhadolc, Gašper Drašler and designer Andraž Tarman from the Odprti krog group.
Each bench will carry the story of the person who adopted it and a person who it might be dedicated to. Altogether it will be a wonderful haven for tired hikers, couples in love or families on a walk.
The adoption agreement is signed for three years. Each bench will carry a special tag where you can share your thoughts, name or dedication with others. In this way, adopters will connect and intertwine with the lake, thus enabling everyone to comfortably enjoy the beauty of the gift of nature.
All monies received by the Stara Fužina Local Community, the Bohinj Tourist Association and Tourism Bohinj from the adoption of the benches are intended for setting up and maintaining the benches, as well as arranging and preserving the trail around the lake.
The set up of each bench costs €300, and an annual rent in the ensuing two years costs €50.
For further information about which bench along Lake Bohinj will be your favourite bench, please contact the project coordinator, Mr Klemen Langus at ++386 (0)4 574 75 90 or write to [email protected].
The authors of the Bohinj Bench considered both the wood- and iron-making tradition of the environment and respect for nature when designing the bench.
The basis of the bench is a thick larch wood plank on a supporting structure made from sheet iron plate, enabling the benches to be set in the ground non-aggressively, almost giving the impression that they float in nature. Their functional shape has also been well thought through so that the benches provide a comfortable and stable feeling to several people at once.
Besides their position, a tag with personalised content provided by the adopters (and refined with the help of the project team) will give a special character to each bench.
