You are cordially invited to take part in a workshop on botanical art with American artist Anne Blackwell Thompson (Blackwell Botanicals).

Anne Blackwell Thompson is in Slovenia at the invitation of the American Embassy under the Art In Embassies program to inspire and be inspired in Bohinj! Anne Blackwell Thompson creates botanical art, a centuries-old artistic tradition that requires special knowledge and skill. She first collects botanical material from the southern United States. While in the field, she deconstructs the botanical specimens using surgical precision and saves them in custom presses. Later, in her studio, she reconstructs and creates artistic compositions. Each botanical specimen has unique characteristics and drying times, so some works may require over six months to complete.

During the workshop, Anne will show us some of her artwork, describe tools of her craft, and give an overview of some of her processes. She hopes to inspire participants to explore ways to use this ancient art form to express their own creativity.

The workshop is free, but places are limited.
