A timeless Slovenian black-and-white classic
Kekec (1951) is the first Slovenian film to win an international award and remains one of the cornerstones of Slovenian cinema. Based on Josip Vandot’s beloved mountain tale Kekec Above the Lonely Abyss, the film has earned a lasting place in the hearts of generations of viewers.
The story follows the brave young Kekec, who decides to confront the infamous Bedanec – a man feared by local children for his wickedness – and ultimately forces him to leave their valley. With courage and wit, Kekec becomes a symbol of strength and resilience.
The film has recently been digitally restored and will be screened with English subtitles.
