Cooking art From Bohinj: There’s always more to learn about štruklji

Would you like to discover Bohinj through its culinary delights?
Traditional dishes intertwined with local ingredients take on a refined culinary touch under professional guidance. The recipes, collected by local women from the culinary-rich Bohinj region, have been skillfully adapted to suit modern tastes.

The cooking workshop will be led by Katica Mikelj, together with the members of The Rural Women’s Association Bohinj. Katica selflessly shares her knowledge and over 30 years of experience in the hospitality industry with students and participants of various training sessions and courses. She thoroughly enjoys passing on her expertise, as evidenced by the positive feedback from course attendees. Last year, she presented Bohinj’s culinary heritage on the TV show Večerja za 5.

What will you prepare?

Štruklji (rolled dumplings) are a traditional Slovenian dish. In their various forms, they are well-known across all Slovenian regions and gastronomic areas. They were traditionally prepared during communal work events and festive occasions.

During the workshop, you will learn how to prepare traditional Slovenian štruklji in various forms:

  • – Cottage cheese štruklji made from thinly stretched dough,
  • – Buckwheat dumplings (ajdovi krapi),
  • – Baked buckwheat štruklji,
  • – Potato štruklji with different fillings,
  • – “Blind” štruklji (gluhi štruklji).

We also accommodate dietary restrictions whenever possible. The selection of dishes is adjusted according to the availability of local ingredients and participants’ preferences. Most of the ingredients and dishes used in the workshop carry the BOHINJSKO/FROM BOHINJ certificate, which guarantees local origin and exceptional quality.

The workshop is held in Slovenian and/or English language.
Maximum number of participants: 10

Price for a 4-hour workshop:

  • – Per person: 65.00 EUR
  • – For groups with fewer than 5 participants: 400.00 EUR

The price includes:

  • – Ingredients and beverages,
  • – A recipe booklet,
  • – A promotional gift,
  • – Event organization.
