In Slovenia, due to its geographically diverse environment and various cultural influences, a wide range of clothing styles developed over the centuries. Based on historical accounts of how Slovenian rural populations dressed, numerous variations of “national costumes” emerged. However, the costume developed under Triglav gained and has retained a special significance to this day. This lecture will explore this particular costume, delve into the broader clothing heritage of Slovenia, and touch upon how people in Bohinj dressed in the 19th century and beyond.
Dr. Bojan Knific, an ethnologist and curator at the Tržič Museum, previously worked as an advisor for folklore activities at the Public Fund of the Republic of Slovenia for Cultural Activities. His research focuses on clothing culture, with a special interest in what is professionally referred to as identity costuming, including the wearing of “national costumes.” He has authored several books on clothing and footwear heritage, as well as numerous academic and professional articles.
