Lecture by Tomaž Mihelič (DOPPS): The richness of the birds of Bohinj

24. January, 18:00

The diverse landscape of Bohinj fosters an extraordinary variety of bird species. Distinct bird communities have developed in the cultural landscape of the valley, the vast forests, and the high mountains. Would you like to meet the most typical “Bohinj native” among birds? During the lecture, we will also discover the rarest and most charismatic species, the overlooked ones, and those that draw increasing numbers of visitors, even from distant places, to Bohinj.

The lecture on the diversity of birds, their various species, and the roles they play in the Bohinj ecosystem will be delivered by Tomaž Mihelič, a conservation ornithologist from the Slovenian Bird Watching and Study Association (DOPPS). DOPPS is one of Slovenia’s largest non-governmental organizations dedicated to nature conservation. It operates in the public interest, focusing on nature preservation, environmental protection, and research activities.

With an extensive network of trained volunteers, numerous members, and professional staff, DOPPS works tirelessly to protect birds and their habitats. In doing so, they contribute to the preservation of nature and the well-being of society as a whole. Learn more about their work at https://ptice.si/en.
