FloraMore than 1000 different plant species grow in Bohinj. The flora in the area is alpine and it is considered to be one of the most diverse and rich in Europe - that is the reason why it has attracted the attention of numerous well-known botanists. Some indigenous plants grow in Bohinj; they were usually named after Bohinj or Triglav (Campanula zoysii; Gentiana terglouensis etc.). Because of its location, rough terrain, vertical drop, the vicinity of the Mediterranean region and geological structure numerous locations with rich flora can be found in the area, especially at the altitude of 700 - 2500 m. The valleys pride colourful meadow vegetation (spring gentian, arnica, bellflower etc.). In spring, when the snow is gone, spring flora starts to blossom in the lowlands (Lady's slipper orchid, Bohinj iris, Clusius' gentian etc.). The mountains of Fužina are rich with scree vegetation that appears at the altitude of 2000 m (Triglav rose (Potentilla nitida), King of the Alps (Eritrichum nanum), Triglav gentian (Gentiana terglouensis) and Crepis terglouensis). At the end of June, one can find mulberry and edelweiss. Highland moors plant species are also of great significance. The above plant species are mentioned in various Slovene stories and tales. The most famous is the Triglav rose that plays an important role in the story about the chamois with a golden horn.
