Join an exclusive hike through Jelovica, led by experienced forest expert Brigita Oblak. Discover the rich history and significance of Jelovica’s forests while exploring the diverse flora and fauna of this unique area.
Jelovica is known for its vast spruce forests, but has it always been this way? How will these forests evolve in the future after years of storms and natural disasters? During the hike, we will also learn about the secret life of the western capercaillie and explore how nature adapts to changing ecosystems.
Brigita Oblak, MSc in Forest Engineering, spends most of her time in nature, especially on the Jelovica Plateau. She works professionally as a district forester in the Martinček district. In her free time, she is a passionate forager, hiker, and hunter, active in a hunting association whose territory also includes parts of Jelovica.
Her special passion is the western capercaillie, a species she studies both professionally and recreationally – previously also as part of the VrH Julijcev project. She sees the forest as a complex and irreplaceable ecosystem, influenced by and influencing a wide range of organisms and environmental factors. She places great value on understanding the forest’s breadth and its 17 essential ecosystem functions, and she is committed to sharing this awareness with others.
Don’t miss this opportunity to explore the secrets of Jelovica’s forests and experience the untouched nature!
