With its natural iron riches, the mystical landscape around the Church of St John the Baptist, Ajdovski gradec hill and the mysterious world of ancient stories, Bohinj is a tempting place for researchers and visitors. The picturesque landscape that has been formed by locals through centuries, the cultural remains, habits and customs can be explored and experienced only if presented by an expert. A local archaeologist, Mija Ogrin, will take you on a hike across ancient Bohinj.
The trail runs from the smelting furnace of St Emma in Nomenj, past Ajdovski gradec that was populated 2500 years ago, past Brod, the birthplace of writer Dr Janez Mencinger, to the Church of St John the Baptist on the shore of Lake Bohinj, which stands at the place of an ancient sanctuary. The hike stops at Pri Foksnerju Inn in Ribčev Laz, where you can taste the local Gauner burger. After a rich snack, you will continue along the forest panoramic trail to Bohinjska Bistrica.
