You are cordially invited to the Open Day of the Bohinj House, featuring the presentation of the “SPACES FOR COMMUNITY” project. This event showcases exemplary practices in designing and arranging community spaces in Slovenia and beyond. The project will be elucidated by the esteemed Alenka Korenjak, u.d.i.a., from the Prostoroz Cultural Association.

Alenka Korenjak, a distinguished graduate of the Faculty of Architecture in Ljubljana, furthered her expertise in architectural offices in Vienna. In 2004, she co-founded the non-profit urban planning studio Prostoroz and later established the architectural office Kombinat arhitekti in 2008. Her work elegantly weaves together architecture, urban planning, and urban policies, encompassing fieldwork with residents, design, research, and advocacy, to consulting for municipalities. She fosters innovative practices that harmonize architecture with the aspirations and needs of residents, alongside the strategies of decision-makers. Her philosophy advocates for architecture that not only uplifts the quality of life but also is environmentally conscious, enhances spaces, and serves the public good.

The presentation’s focus on community spaces delves into the conceptual design and spatial assessment of the old kindergarten building in Bohinjska Bistrica. This project, initiated by the Municipality of Bohinj in autumn 2022, aims to transform the space into an intergenerational center, a library, or a community center. The Prostoroz team critically assessed various options, conducted an investment evaluation, and proposed diverse long-term functional programs for the building. Additionally, they suggested interim uses to gauge the space’s potential and the community’s needs over one to two years, prior to committing to extensive investments.

The corridor of the Bohinj House will host the “SPATIAL REVIEW OF THE OLD NURSERY SCHOOL, BOHINJSKA BISTRICA” exhibition. This display will unveil the envisioned plans and ideas for both the long-term and temporary utilization of the premises.

Furthermore, the event offers a unique opportunity to explore the Bohinj House, now a dynamic community hub. The event will spotlight various activities and programs currently enlivening the house, providing insights into its present and prospective users. This exhibition serves as a brilliant platform to comprehend the significance of architecture and place-making in fostering community development.
