Fall Cuisine 2026
TASTE THE FALL IN BOHINJ
Fall in Bohinj isn’t just a time for more peaceful walks, the first mists over the lake, and forests turning shades of yellow, orange, and red. It’s also a time when the menu changes.
This October is a paradise for food lovers, as Bohinj will host a series of culinary events, and alongside them, inns and restaurants will gradually begin offering their fall menus. From laid-back street food and Restaurant Week to the Cheese and Wine Festival, local markets, and culinary workshops —there will be a good reason to visit Bohinj almost every weekend during this time.
WHAT'S HAPPENING THIS OCTOBER?
WE'RE KICKING OFF OCTOBER WITH "BITE BOHINJ," STREET FOOD THE BOHINJ WAY
On Saturday, 3 October, the ‘Bite Bohinj’ street food event, featuring Bohinj-style cuisine, will take place once again at the market in Bohinjska Bistrica. The event, which for one day moves Bohinj’s cuisine from inns and restaurants to a more relaxed street food setting, is primarily aimed at tasting, socialising and getting to know various vendors all in one place. There will also be live acoustic music at the event.
This time, the event will combine cuisine with literature, as the Bohinjska Bistrica Theatre will stage a commemorative literary recital, ‘Beseda, ki ostaja’ (The Word That Remains), dedicated to the works of Srečko Kosovel, Zofka Kveder and Ivan Cankar, at 3.00 pm, 4.00 pm and 5.00 pm.
FALL IS ALSO HERE FOR THE DINING TABLE
From October 9 to 18, the fall Restaurant Week will take place, an annual event that brings together select Slovenian restaurants and their special menus. During this time, visitors to Bohinj will be able to sample the menus at the restaurants Pri Lovcu and Pri Hrvatu. If you’re someone who enjoys getting to know a destination through a slightly more thoughtful, multi-course culinary experience, this is one of the best reasons to visit in the fall.
You can check the menus and available dates directly on the Restaurant Week website, where you can also make reservations.
FALL FLAVORS A LITTLE HIGHER UP
Between October 14 and 18, Gostišče Lajnar on Soriška Planina will host “Culinary Colors of Fall”—a culinary experience dedicated to the seasonal flavors of this time of year.
You can round out your fall visit to Soriška Planina at the table with a menu that combines seasonal ingredients and the creativity of the kitchen team. You can choose between a 3-course menu and an expanded 5-course culinary experience, and wine pairings will also be available.
Check the Soriška Planina website for the detailed menu, prices, and reservation information.
WHEN CHEESE AND WINE MEET
24 October marks the Cheese and Wine Festival. Bohinj has a special connection with cheese-making, which is closely linked to alpine dairy farming, agriculture and the way of life in the valley; as a result, cheese plays a far greater role in the local cuisine than simply being an item on the menu.
At the event, you’ll be able to sample a variety of cheeses and wines, meet the producers and learn about their production methods, and stop by the stalls offering local produce. The festivities will be accompanied by a musical programme featuring the band Kranjci, and there’ll be plenty for the little ones to enjoy, with entertainment, workshops and face painting.
Tickets are available through Eventim and can also be purchased on the day of the event. Tasting vouchers are included in the price.
THE AUTUMN HOLIDAYS ARE ALSO A TIME TO GET COOKING
The Autumn Holidays will be an opportunity not only to sample the flavours of autumn, but also to create them yourself. At the ‘Today the Children Are Cooking’ workshop, led by chef Matevž Zalokar, the little ones will be doing the cooking, whilst the parents will mainly be tasting the results this time. At the cheese-making workshop at the Gartner Tourist Farm, you’ll learn about cheese production, make your own cheese and herb butter, and sample the farm’s homemade produce.
As part of the Bohinj Fly-Fishing Festival, the programme will also feature two more culinary experiences centred around fish. At the children’s ‘fish’ cookery workshop, children will learn how to clean and prepare fish alongside chef Matevž Zalokar, whilst the following day the Bohinj Fishing Family will showcase its work and also take care of grilling the fish.
A SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT "BITE BOHINJ"
On 31 October, the event will move to Danica, where Bite Bohinj will join forces with the B.O.FEjST children’s festival. On the same day, it will offer a programme for families and culinary events for those who are also interested in what’s on their plate.
Family activities, culinary experiences and a relaxed autumn atmosphere will all come together in one place on the last day of October.

AND AS FALL SLOWLY COMES TO AN END ...
We have another reason for food lovers to keep an eye on what’s happening even after October ends.
On Monday, December 14, some of Bohinj’s finest food providers will come together once again for a special seven-course culinary evening. The highlight of the evening is the collaboration itself: each course is prepared by a different vendor, allowing guests to experience several distinct culinary styles of Bohinj in a single menu.
In recent years, this event has become one of the most popular culinary evenings in Bohinj, which is why we’re announcing it a little earlier this year.
Tickets will be available starting October 14, and we’ll reveal more about the event soon.
See you in Bohinj!
