ALPINE PEARLS
Alpine Pearls brings together more than 20 resorts in the Alps committed to promoting environmentally friendly holidays and innovative mobility solutions. As a network for sustainable tourism in the Alps, linking Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Germany and Slovenia, it aims to offer guests a thoughtful and relaxed experience in harmony with nature and to explore the beauty of a car-free holiday.
Alpine Pearls was founded in 2006, when 17 destinations, called “Alpine Pearls”, came together to form a network. The initiative was the result of two European projects, Alps Mobility and Alps Mobility II, which aimed to develop innovative, sustainable and climate-friendly tourism solutions.
Today, the achievements of these visionary projects are being realised through the work of the international organisation Alpine Pearls.
In February 2022, the association was awarded the status of European Grouping for Territorial Cooperation and has since been called the EGTC Alpine Pearls.
Alpine Pearls support the preservation of natural beauty and the development of sustainable tourism by focusing on the following areas:
- Eco-mobility: promoting environmentally friendly transport and sustainable travel modes.
- Regional cuisine: supporting local food and traditional dishes for an authentic experience of the region.
- Sustainable accommodation: accommodation that is committed to ecological responsibility and comfort.
- Holidays in harmony with nature: activities that allow a close connection with the natural environment.
- Regional economic cycles: Supporting local economies and the circulation of resources within communities.
Holidays? Environmentally friendly, please!
The members of the network are committed to continuous progress and focus on taking a pioneering role in sustainability. In this context, particular emphasis is placed on respecting the different lifestyles of the Alpine regions and working with local communities.
Soft mobillity
Soft mobility is a sustainable and environmentally friendly approach to travel, especially in tourism. It encourages a rethinking of travel habits and the use of alternatives that are more energy efficient and less polluting.
Instead of personal cars, sustainable travellers prefer to use public transport, bicycles, e-bikes and car sharing, which helps reduce CO2 emissions, air pollution and traffic congestion.
Those who travel without a car and embrace soft mobility contribute to nature conservation while experiencing places in a unique way, in full contact with the environment.
TRAVEL LEAVES TRACES...
…in your memories, photo collections, diaries. Whoever sets out to explore new horizons, whoever discovers the good things that are within reach, whoever simply sets out and feels the freedom, will return happier to everyday life.
The Alpine Pearls are places of longing for those who want to experience their travelling adventure step by step. For those who crave the sun. For winter enthusiasts. For the truly happy adventurers. For you.
ALPINE PEARL BOHINJ
On 1 July 2017, the municipality of Bohinj became a full member of the Alpine Pearls.
“The entry of the municipality means recognition for activities in the field of sustainable tourism, especially the so-called soft mobility. It also means additional promotional activities in the company of the best, exchanges of good practices, training and cooperation in various projects. We believe that by joining the network of Alpine Pearls, Bohinj will consolidate its image as a destination with a clear commitment to sustainable development, providing quality of life for locals and a quality experience for visitors. On the other hand, Bohinj’s entry also benefits the members of the network, as Bohinj has in recent years developed examples of good practice that are already of interest to the network’s member municipalities. One such example is the Wild Flower Festival, and the Bohinjsko /From Bohinj brand”.
