23 October–1 November 2026
Are you looking for ideas on where to go for the autumn half-term with the children?
From 23 October to 1 November 2026, the autumn days in Bohinj invite you to enjoy shared experiences. Creative and cookery workshops, nature exploration, museums, the cinema, culinary delights and a varied programme for children and families await you.
2026 POTATO HOLIDAYS PROGRAMME
FOR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES
The youngest children will be able to explore The Zlatorog Fairy-Tale Trail, creating art at the Bohinj House and try their hand at pottery, wool felting, making Halloween decorations and carving pumpkins. The programme also includes audio story, story time, end-of-holidays party with Rubi and Rudi and a cinema screening Priročnik za superjunake (Handbook for Superheroes – Red Mask).
The holiday week will culminate on 31 October with the Autumn B.O.FEjST, alongside which there will also be workshops on fly-tying and painting fish motifs on pebbles.
AUTUMN WITH A BOHINJ FLAVOUR
Food lovers will also have plenty of reasons to visit. The holiday begins with the Cheese and Wine Festival, followed by the ‘Kids do the Cooking’ workshops with chef Matevž Zalokar, a cheese-making workshop at the Gartner Tourist Farm, and a children’s cookery workshop dedicated to preparing fish.
As part of the Fly-Fishing Festival, there will also be a presentation by the Bohinj Fishing Association featuring a fish barbecue, whilst on the last Saturday of the festival, ‘Bite Bohinj’ will be taking place, featuring Bohinj-style street food. On Saturdays, you can also visit the local market, and throughout the potato holidays, selected venues will be offeringspecial autumn menus.
AUTUMN IN NATURE
Autumn is the best time to explore Bohinj at a slightly more leisurely pace. You can join a guided walk through the Pokljuka forest, take part in the ‘From the Hayracks to Oplen’s House’ experience, or go on ane-bike ride to the Voje Valley.
Children can also take part in a walking challenge and collect stamps along selected trails in Bohinj. On the last day of the holidays, you can put together your own programme – with a walk, a bike ride, a visit to the Water Park or this year’s final trip on the panoramic boat, when tickets will be available at a 50 per cent discount.
STORIES OF BOHINJ, MUSEUMS AND CULTURE
A holiday is also an opportunity to discover Bohinj through its stories. The programme begins with the experience ‘This colourful, on potica placed stone from Bohinj’, dedicated to the bauxite mine at Rudnica.
You can visit the Bohinj History Museum, Oplen House, the Alpine Dairy Museum and the Historia Bohinj museum collection, whilst on 29 October, the exhibition ‘Between Heaven and Earth’ will open in Stara Fužina, followed by a concert by the band Trš, playing instruments made from 6,560-year-old fir trees. A day later, there will also be a cinema screening for adults of ‘Skriti ljudje‘.
