The indigenous Bohinjska cika is a very special cow. Once the perfect dairy cow for the humble and challenging area of the Julian Alps, it was almost extinct by the end of the 1990s, but the stubbornness of the Bohinj breeders has kept it alive. It has thus become an important symbol of perseverance and change in our understanding of the world. The Bohinj cow is not a modern machine for milk and meat production, but a friendly and cuddly reddish cow, grazing contentedly on the luscious Alpine meadows with the pleasant tinkling of her bell, giving us a healthy and tasty white treasure of nature.
