In the past, Bohinj’s inhabitants salted meat that was not eaten immediately. The smaller pieces were ground, seasoned with spices they had at home and stuffed into salami or sausages. To prevent the meat products from spoiling, they were smoked and dried in the fresh air. Bohinj butcheries preserves the way salami and sausages are produced, smoked and cured.
