Cross-border journeys between Italy & Slovenia​

Spring 2026

Discover or rediscover a cross-border region through three curated journeys linking Italy and Slovenia. Each itinerary is built around a series of events, from festivals and performances to food and nature experiences, and is fully accessible by public transport. Designed as self-guided journeys, they offer a flexible way to explore the region and uncover its cultural, historical, and natural diversity.

Journey 1:  Through layers of history

Gorizia – Nova Gorica – Bohinj

A cross-border train journey linking Gorizia, Nova Gorica, and Bohinj where each stop reveals a different historical layer of the region. From cultural heritage and shifting border histories, to Alpine landscapes shaped by centuries of coexistence with nature, the route connects a series of spring events that bring these stories to life.

Journey 2: Across two wine regions

Venice – Gorizia – Nova Gorica – Vipava

Over one weekend, travel by train across the border between Italy and Slovenia, from the Venetian region to the Vipava Valley via Gorizia and Nova Gorica. Taste wines on both sides of the border, discover contrasting terroirs, and explore how local traditions and techniques shape the character of each glass.

This journey follows a cultural storyline from present-day performance to historical reenactment. The cross-border train journey linking Venice, Gorizia, Nova Gorica, Ajdovščina, and Bohinj, brings together a series of spring and early summer events where history and culture is experienced through performance, reenactment, and place.
