In 2024, Bohinj recorded 838,727 overnight stays, representing a slight increase of just under 2% compared to 2023. For comparison, the neighboring town of Bled recorded 959,084 overnight stays.

In 2024, domestic guests accounted for the largest share of overnight stays in Bohinj, representing 21.7%, while international guests contributed the remaining 78.3%. Among the most significant foreign markets are Germany, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Hungary, and Belgium. German guests accounted for the largest share of international overnight stays in 2024, with 15.7%, followed by Czech guests with 8.3%, Dutch guests with 5.9%, Hungarian guests with 5.8%, and Belgian guests with 5%. The share of domestic overnight stays decreased by 7% compared to 2023. The largest growth among key markets was observed in the UK market, where the share of overnight stays increased by 18%. The summer months recorded the highest number of arrivals and overnight stays in 2024, while November was the month with the lowest number of visitors.

 

Accommodation facilities

According to AJPES data, there were 9,854 permanent beds available in August 2024. The largest share is accounted for by private rooms and apartments, comprising 43.8%, followed by campsites with 23.9%. Hotels and similar accommodations (hostels, guesthouses, pensions) make up 15%, while holiday homes and mountain lodges each represent 8.3%. Other types of accommodations, such as motorhome parking areas, account for slightly less than 1%.

 

Share of overnight stays in Bohinj

In 2023, the municipality of Bohinj ranked fifth among Slovenian municipalities in the number of overnight stays, following Ljubljana, Piran, Bled, and Kranjska Gora. That year, Bohinj accounted for 5.1% of all arrivals in Slovenia and as much as 18.5% of overnight stays in the municipalities of the Julian Alps community.
