How to get around in Bohinj?
With long queues and conditions on the roads stealing time and nerves, freedom from the private car is increasingly moving to public transport. Good connections are essential to complete car-free freedom, and our efforts are heading in that direction, even if we are not quite there yet. Check out the possibilities for exploring Bohinj without a car.

MOBILE EVEN WITHOUT A CAR
As a member of the Alpine Pearls Alpine Destinations of Excellence, Bohinj is sustainably committed to preserving its environment, biodiversity and traditional way of life. Our generation does not want to be the one to waste it all, so we are taking a number of measures to calm traffic in the most sensitive and congested areas of Bohinj, especially around Lake Bohinj and on Pokljuka.
We encourage you to join us in our search for the best options for the environment and for local people and visitors. Let’s step out of our comfort zone and commit to persistent choices for environmentally friendly solutions.
Organised transport
During the (summer and winter) season, we have organised shuttle services from the train station and P&R car parks.
- timetables of organised transport
- taxis and on-call transfers
- ski bus
By bus: regular services
There is a regular bus service from Ljubljana to Bohinj. From the main bus station, via Bled, Bohinjska Bistrica and Ribčev Laz, a bus takes you to Ukanc every hour.
The Bohinj bus runs regularly in the Upper and Lower Bohinj valley. Most departures and arrivals of organised services are linked to the arrivals and departures of trains and regular bus lines. It is possible to change between lines.
Timetables web app – test version
We are excited to show you a step forward in digitising destinations in the Julian Alps. We are the first in Slovenia to introduce an innovative mobility solution, an integrated web portal with public transport timetables, dedicated to providing the best possible passenger information everywhere, at all times. The project will be implemented in two phases.
In the current test phase, the app includes all extra local transport services provided by destinations in the Julian Alps during the summer season, but not yet the public passenger transport lines of Slovenia. The integration of the last is part of the second phase, which is planned for the beginning of next year.
You are welcome to try the test version of the web application, which can be accessed via the following link: https://testmobility.julian-alps.com/
The operation is co-financed by the Climate Fund of the Republic of Slovenia.
