In autumn, Bohinj is draped in beautiful colours and snow starts covering the peaks of mountains. Outside the main summer tourist season, without any crowds, Bohinj is the perfect place for zen and meditation. This is the time when nature shows the luxurious fragility of its peace, when the sounds accompanying wood cutting and the poetic rustling of trees can hardly be heard miles away. And whatever breaks the silence, it sounds even sweeter in autumn.
Welcome to rustling leaves, magical autumn mists and beautiful views. Make the most of countless opportunities for outdoor adventures.
AUTUMN ACTIVITIES
Autumn in Bohinj is a paradise for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. Golden forests, fresh mountain air, and stunning panoramas create the perfect setting for hiking along mountain trails, cycling through picturesque villages, and peaceful walks by the lake. Visitors can also enjoy fishing, horseback riding through colorful landscapes, or even an adrenaline-filled paragliding jump when weather permits. Bohinj in autumn combines tranquility with outdoor adventure, offering a relaxing experience within the breathtaking embrace of the Julian Alps.

The world in Bohinj speaks with the warm voice of a wise “old man”, waiting for a chance to catch us unaware in the silent intimacy of personal thoughts and making us laugh.
Activities can be different in autumn. Without stress. The lake can still be warm, the hills are still here, fishermen enjoy the peace and quiet and locals stop running errands. Mornings are longer and evenings smell of the rich local cuisine. Fireplaces are lit in the evenings and in the pleasant melancholy the memories of summer are merged in the satisfaction of an autumn day well spent.
Autumn hiking brings a sense of peace, warmth, and connection with nature as we step through soft carpets of leaves, surrounded by colorful forests and the crisp mountain air. But fall also presents some challenges – the days are shorter, temperatures drop, and higher altitudes may even bring winter-like conditions. With some mountain huts already closed, careful route planning and proper gear become all the more important. Autumn in Bohinj is beautiful, but it requires thoughtfulness and preparation for a safe hiking experience.
Family hikes in the heart of nature
All young hikers are invited to join our hiking challenge, which runs until the end of November!
Discover beautiful trails and conquer fascinating destinations in Bohinj and its surroundings. Your task is to collect at least 5 stamps at designated points or take a photo at the destination. Once you complete the challenge, a well-deserved reward awaits you! We invite you to enjoy an active getaway in nature and embark on a hiking adventure.
The Zlatorog Fairy Tale Trail takes you through the world of Bohinj folk tales, where nine fairy tale heroes await you along the way. The circular trail is approximately 2 kilometres long, so you can walk along it for an hour or a whole day, depending on your pace and your desire to explore. Along the way, there are suggestions for family activities that you can do in nature – either on the fairy trail itself or anywhere else you go on a family nature exploration.
Before visiting attractions, we advise you to check opening times.
